Daily Devotion: Lord, I thought I was alone

***September 9, 2024***

Thoughtful Starter:
If you could ask a question to God right now, what would it be?

Today’s Scripture:  Habakkuk 1:2

“How long, O Lord, must I call for help?
But you do not listen!”

daily devotion

Have you ever said this sentence to Him? Or any variation of this question?

Habakkuk is a prophet of God who witnessed the violence toward the Israelites. He was there when they were oppressed and felt their anguish and despair. This made him cry and complained to God. He felt that God had forgotten his people and desperately asked for help.

He thought that the cry for help was being left on deaf ears.

Little did he know, God had been listening to them. In the following chapter, He answered Habakkuk’s complaint with a gentle answer of assurance.

In times of confusion and problems, let's follow what Habakkuk did. Just as he went first directly to God, we too should do this.  What happens sometimes is we try to do things on our own, exhaust our resources,

and then when we’re left with nothing, we draw near to Him.

What Habakkuk is reminding us today is to go to Him first.

To call for help to our heavenly Father first, before everything else.

Today, we’re encouraged to take Him as the first option, not the only option.

He alone can put everything else in the right place.

Today’s Reflection Question:
When do you mostly feel God’s presence?

Today’s Prayer:
Lord, thank you for never leaving us, for always listening to our prayers and our cries. Help us to cultivate a genuine relationship with you as we tread in this life.
