Daily Devotion: The Discipline of a Disciple

***September 11, 2024***

Thoughtful Starter:
What do you think about the word “discipline”?

Today’s Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:11
“No discipline is enjoyable while it’s happening - it’s painful! But afterward, there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”

“Learning to say “no” is not a mortal”, this line from The Introvert’s Way by Sophia Dembling resonates with our devotion today. Knowing when to say “no” because it’s the right thing to do takes courage and discipline. Trusting Him, following Him, and persevering for Him may be challenging at times.

But just like Abraham when God called him to leave his home and move to another place, he went without knowing where he was going. His faith and trust in God are worth following.

He was disciplined by God to be his disciple.

It may seem hard to do it now, and He knows it as it says in our verse today,  “no discipline is enjoyable while it’s happening”.

However,  the discipline that comes from Him is different.

It’s a discipline He handcrafted for us filled with love and wrapped in peace.

So, we press on. We live for Him.

Today’s Reflection Question:
What do you think are your challenges in being a disciple of Christ?

Today’s Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your love for us and for us to be your disciples today. Lord, though it is a road less travellerd, we take courage in your presence in our lives. Amen.
