Daily Devotion: What is my life for?

***August 20, 2024***

Thoughtful Starter:
Have at least a minute of silence before delving into our devotion today.

Today’s Scripture Reading: John 15:5 (NLT)
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

After reading “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom, I’m reminded of the importance of clinging our lives to God.  To never let go. The main character, Eddie, realizes that the meaning of his life isn’t found in the grand achievements that he had.

Instead, it’s in the small, everyday connections and the love he gave to others.

Like branches drawing life from the vine, having a purpose-driven life relies on our relationship with Jesus. Mitch Albom’s story of Eddie illustrates how our lives, even in the simplest acts of love and kindness, have profound significance when rooted in something greater. Apart from Christ, our efforts can feel empty or unfulfilled. But when we abide in Him, our lives bear fruit that blesses others and honors God.

Albom writes, “It’s not what you do in life, it’s who you are.”

Just as Eddie discovers that his purpose was rooted in relationships and love, we too must recognize that our ability to produce meaningful fruit in life comes from abiding in Christ.

Today’s Reflection Question:
How can you deepen your connection with Christ in your daily life?

Today’s Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank You for being the true vine that gives life and purpose to all I do. Help me to remain in You, drawing strength, wisdom, and love from our relationship. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
