Daily Devotion: When the word "pray" was foreign

***September 3, 2024***

Thoughtful Starter:
Have a minute of silence and have five long deep breaths.

Today’s Scripture Reading: Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Got married at 30, prepared a house for their family then waited for their baby, but their baby left early.

To describe that their lives have been on a roller coaster last year was an understatement. This happened to my friend and as someone who’s been there with her, I’ve seen how she and her husband grow in faith after all the challenges. They were so excited to start a family, it just didn’t happen on their own terms. My friend received the news from her doctor that it might be hard for her to conceive the second time around.

The challenges that would dampen other people’s relationships, became a way that brought them closer to God. I don’t know their entire spiritual journey.

But I was amazed by God’s power when my friend, who used to be someone with whom I couldn’t talk about God’s word, uttered the word “pray”.

She spoke it with reverence and humility.

Now, as you pass their house, you can hear a lullaby in the background while a six-month-old baby boy peacefully sleeps.

May today’s verse and short story remind us of the providence of God in our lives.

He sees us. He never leaves us. May we never be discouraged and trust in His ways.

Today’s Reflection Question:
What was the “impossible situation” in your life that became possible?

Today’s Prayer:
Lord, when fear and uncertainty arise, remind me that You hold me up and sustain me. Give me the courage to face challenges, knowing that You are by my side every step of the way. Amen.
